This grand old watch manufacturer was founded by Jean-Marc Vacheron in 1755 and within 15 years his company had created its first complications watch. In 1819 Vacheron's grandson joined with Francois Constantin, creating the company name Vacheron et Constantin.
With a new production engineer in 1839 the company revolutionized watch-making techniques by adapting the pantograph to the requirements of the industry. This meant that certain watch components could be copied repeatedly by a machine, and no longer need to be hand-made.
Vacheron et Constantin won many prizes in the 1800s, including the Geneva Observatory precision contest for timepieces in 1872 (a number of its watches won awards). At the Swiss National Exhibition held in Geneva in 1896, a prestigious gold medal was awarded to Vacheron Constantin in recognition of a range of outstanding achievements. Many more prizes have been awarded to Vacheron Constantin throughout its history.

1935 saw the creation of one of the most complex pocket-watches ever sold by Vacheron Constantin. Commissioned by King Farouk of Egypt, it took five years to make.
In 1955, celebrating 200 years of history, Vacheron Constantin designed and built one of the thinnest watches ever produced, with a calibre only 1.64 mm deep. It was only in 2003 that Vacheron Constantin launched it first collection for women, 'Egérie.'
The 400th anniversary of Mercator's death in 1994 brought about the very limited production of a pair of incredible watch designs. Their hand-enamelled dial featured Mercator's own maps of the hemispheres, as well as a pair of compass-like watch hands invented and built specially for these timepieces .
